The single most expensive thing you can do with a failed garage door is keep pressing the button. A door that is off track, running on a broken spring or fighting a jammed cable will damage itself further on every cycle — and a repair that was hardware becomes a repair that is sections.

What counts as a garage door emergency?
A door stuck open, so the house is not secure. A door hanging crooked or off its track, which can fall. A snapped spring or cable. A door that has trapped a vehicle you need. And any door that has stopped reversing when something is under it — that one is a safety issue even if the door still works.
What should I do while I wait for you?
Stop operating the door. Every attempt to force it makes the damage worse and can turn a repair into a replacement. Keep children and pets out of the garage. If the door is stuck open and you need to secure the house, lock the interior door to the house rather than trying to force the garage door down.
Can I pull the red emergency release cord?
Only if the door is fully closed. That cord disconnects the door from the opener so you can move it by hand. If you pull it while the door is open and a spring is broken, the door can slam down under its own weight — a double door can weigh well over 200 lbs. When in doubt, leave it and call us.
My door is stuck open and I can't secure the house. How fast can you come?

The door closed on something. Is it safe to keep using?
No. Since 1993 openers have been required to reverse when the photo-eye beam is broken or the door meets resistance. If yours did not, the sensors, the force setting or the opener itself has a fault, and the door should not be used until it is checked.
